Chase the Sun Info

Last year we launched our virtual run called Chase the Sun, where we encouraged people to walk or run 10k in the week that included the longest day of the year.

A virtual run still means you still actually run/walk/ride but the great thing is you can do it when suits you. You might be an early morning runner or an evening runner but you can still take part in this event!

This year is going to be BIGGER and even more inclusive.

We want YOU to sign up to ‘chase the sun ‘and pledge to push yourself physically to achieve your own goal.

Maybe you have always wanted to try and run 5km, maybe a marathon , maybe try a new fitness class or cycle to work for the week. We don’t mind; what we want is to spread the message that getting out and exercising improves your mental health. And of course raise money for Sunflowers !

🌻 Your chosen pledge is to be added in the comments when donating and is to be completed within chase the sun week 17th-23rd June 2019

The charity

Bereavement by suicide can be a lonely and complicated bereavement. Sunflowers aims to be the small ray of light in the darkness offering others comfort and support that is so desperately needed. We endeavour to provide families with practical support and guide them to the professional support available to them, so they don't feel so overwhelmed and alone. This we hope will give them a glimmer of hope for the future.

Sunflowers exist to reduce the number of people who take their own lives in Gloucestershire. We aim to raise awareness of the stigma that surrounds mental health. We aim to highlight and help others identify suicide indicators. We endeavour to equip individuals and the community with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour. We believe that everyone can play a part in making Gloucestershire a suicide safer community.

We endeavour to support any individuals living in Gloucestershire that have been bereaved by suicide and work to provide timely practical care and the best possible help to these individuals. We endeavour to signpost individuals to further professional support and guidance.

Registered charity (no. 1177266).

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
