We are asking for financial support to install modern teaching facilities. Thanks to generous donations from the community, we can now embark on the second phase of our project to install ‘sound control’ for the tower.

  • Sound control limits the sound of the bells outside the tower whilst allowing the ringers to still hear their bells inside. Extra practice time will help learners progress towards the standard of our experienced Friday night band!

We raised over £5k ourselves through our own donations, a grant from the Surrey Association of Church Bellringers and a national Ringing Teachers' award for 'Inspirational Leadership in Ringing' and a further £7k has been donated prior to opening this appeal on Wonderful.org

Any donation you can give will help us reach our final target!

See more about our project on our ringing pages and also read a recent article written for the church about bellringers and bellringing.

All funds raised will be passed to St. Mary's Church Barnes irrespective of whether our appeal target is reached, not reached or exceeded. If funds are being raised for a specific purpose and, for whatever reason, this purpose is no longer valid, the funds will be transferred to the charity for general use.

The charity

St Mary’s Barnes is a parish church in the heart of the community. We are an Anglican Church which has witnessed to and served this community in south west London for over 800 years.

We are an outward looking church that uses our church and its facilities for the enrichment of our community through a wide variety of cultural events.

We serve the community by supporting local charities with time and talents and we engage with the wider world by our connections in South Sudan and Zimbabwe.

We run many events throughout the year to raise funds for St Mary's church, to maintain the building and to fund clergy both locally and around the Diocese.

Registered charity (no. 1134840).

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
