Conference Bursary Fund

for Nourish (Scotland)

£285.00 + £38.75 Gift Aid = £323.75
Donated to Conference Bursary Fund’s £1000.00 Goal

Scotland is signed up to becoming a Good Food Nation – a country where we can all afford and enjoy good food without messing up the planet or exploiting our fellow humans. How hard can that be?

The conference is all about achieving change – how we get from where we are to where we need and want to be? We’re looking for people with all sorts of backgrounds and skills to help figure this out.

Although we’ve kept the price of the two days as low as possible, we know this may still be a barrier to some. This is why we're asking for your help.

We're keen that money is not an obstacle to anyone joining in this discussion. The bursary fund will help us cover the attendance costs for those who may otherwise be excluded.

Thanks for helping lead the way to a more inclusive, accessible and fair food system.

Nourish conference team

All funds raised will be passed to Nourish (Scotland) irrespective of whether our appeal target is reached, not reached or exceeded. If funds are being raised for a specific purpose and, for whatever reason, this purpose is no longer valid, the funds will be transferred to the charity for general use.

The charity

Nourish Scotland is a food justice NGO. We work in partnership with people with lived experience, producers, community groups, other NGOs, public bodies and other decision-makers to put fair, sustainable, healthy food at the heart of Scotland’s food system.

We campaign for the necessary changes to law, policy and practice to make this a reality. We advocate for a rights-based approach and support Food Sovereignty principles.

Food is at the heart of many of the major crises we collectively face today, from the destruction of our natural world to the pervasiveness of diet-related illness and household food insecurity. These issues have not come about by accident; they are a result of a food system in which power is highly concentrated, and in the hands of a shrinking number of exceptionally powerful organisations, with limited and fragmented government intervention. We believe that only a transformation of the whole food system will result in effective and sustainable solutions.

Our recent successes

  • We secured commitment to a Good Food Nation Bill in three party manifestos and the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government, with consultation beginning in 2018; with the help of civil society partners through the Scottish Food Coalition.
  • We gave evidence to a UN Committee in Geneva which led to the very first recommendations on the right to food addressed to the UK, and put Scotland’s soaring food poverty on an international stage.
  • We co-authored a vision for food, farming and health in a new Scotland: Plenty, calling for a just transition to better food system; as members of the Scottish Food Coalition

Registered charity (no. SC048239).

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
