Autism Angels is a charity that works with parents and professionals to improve the lives of all children. We believe that the best way to work and improve a child's life, is to work with all the people involved; this includes teachers as well as parents and siblings and we create a space where there is equal partnership between everyone.
Our programmes are designed to challenge current thinking patterns and behaviours and support the person in changing these. We believe that working together to raise a persons awareness, can have an amazing impact on their life and then will cause a ripple effect that influences those around them. By working with the horses, we can create real life scenarios and support everyone in how they currently cope with these, to then illicit change in their responses.
Our programmes are ideal for children and their families who are affected by any form of adversity, whether this is challenging behaviours, conflicts in the home, struggles with education or mainstream structures; or who are generally finding an area in their life difficult to deal with. The programmes can provide everyone with a reassuring structure, in an environment which focuses on enabling skills and providing positive opportunities for their development, away from the constraints of a classroom.
We work with horses to support our learning and this is known as “Equine Facilitated Learning” (EFL). We work with horses to create ‘real life’ scenarios that can be then practiced and worked through. Horses are reactionary animals and have a range of emotions that create powerful and honest feedback that is immediate. Working with this model enables individuals, families and professionals to gain new insights into how they communicate, empower and connect with themselves and the wider world around them.
When EFL is coupled with our coaching approach we create a very powerful platform to illicit change and empower you to lead your best life yet. This approach is known as “Equine Facilitated Coaching” (EFC).
We put a couple of questions to the founders of Autism Angels:
1. How did you discover Wonderful?
We were looking for a better option than the big websites to use to collect our online fundraising. Martin Lewis recommended you on his website and so we looked into how we could move our fundraising over to your site.
2. Did you have any initial reservations about the platform? If so, what are they and have they since been overcome?
I think our only concern was that it was easy for people to use who were setting up their Fundraising page and that it was easy for those who would be sponsoring them. We also needed to make sure people were able to gift aid as with other fundraising sites.
3. What made you decide to become a Wonderful charity?
It just made sense to make sure that more money was coming directly to the charity and going to the families who need our support.
4. How has Wonderful helped your charity in particular?
It has provided a great platform to share fundraising events and made it easy for people to donate.
5. Tell us about a particular appeal or fundraising page that is worthy of mention.
We have recently taken part in a 500 mile walk around Yorkshire to raise awareness for the charity and much needed funds
6. If we limited you to just three words to describe Wonderful, what would they be?
Easy, professional, neat
