Pain Support - Practical help, friendship and encouragement for persistent pain sufferers

Pain Support Jersey offers support in many ways but with one principal aim, to improve the quality of life for persistent pain sufferers.

Persistent pain inevitably colours someone's life. Work can be affected, social lives disappear, loneliness sets in, self-confidence takes a plunge, and life, in general, becomes less fulfilled. Every individual is, of course, different, but Pain Support Jersey offers everyone the opportunity to improve their lives, physically and mentally, despite the pain.

Pain Support Jersey organises indoor and outdoor exercise classes, social events, mindfulness sessions, walks, craft opportunities, talks and hydrotherapy. With the help of The Pain Management Centre, Physio’s join us twice a week to make sure our exercises are done in a safe environment.

We spoke to Laura at Pain Support to find out about their plans for fundraising with The Wonderful Organisation.

How did you discover Wonderful?

We discovered Wonderful through word of mouth, it wasn’t till we looked into it further we knew it was the perfect platform for us. We are a small but mighty charity, and with the support of Wonderful we will be able fundraise more effectively and efficiently. We can’t wait to be able to utilise Wonderful for our 10K Walk For Pain Support taking place in March 2019.

Did you have any initial reservations about the platform? If so, what are they and have they since been overcome?

We didn’t have any reservation about using Wonderful, but as a Jersey Charity we had to wait for certain changes before we were able to finish our registration. The communication we received from Wonderful was fantastic, we felt really prioritise and we were able to have faith in the team the whole time.

What made you decide to become a Wonderful charity?

We decided to become a Wonderful Charity as we can not afford to pay the fees that other platforms request. When we fundraise for our charity all the money raised goes to the charity to better the service we provide and offer for our members. As we rely on the generosity of others to help us run a successful service, we couldn’t justify monthly fees other platforms charge. Wonderful has been so easy to use and any queries we had we dealt with swiftly and easily. We couldn’t imagine having a better service anywhere else.

How has Wonderful helped your charity in particular?

We are hoping our 10K Walk For Pain Support will be the biggest fundraiser yet. We new we wanted to make it easy for participants to collect sponsorships and then we heard about Wonderful. As we wanted to be registered on Wonderful before we announced our event, we expressed our slight urgency to the team at Wonderful. Before we new it, the option for Jersey Charities to register was approved and Carmen was prepping us for the application process, it couldn’t have been simpler thanks to her guidance.

The 10K Walk For Pain Support is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself while raising awareness and funds for a local charity.

It’s easy to take for granted the simple act of walking short distances without experiencing pain, but there are many people out there for whom this is just not an option.

For people with persistent pain, a walk can be a tough challenge or even an impossible dream, due to the pain, decreased mobility and a lack of self-confidence. Our 10k Walk For Pain Support aims to highlight the daily challenges faced by pain sufferers while raising funds for a charity which helps them to live more fulfilled lives, through gentle exercise and mindfulness sessions together with social events.

We’re calling on anyone looking for a new challenge in 2019. Are you a self-confessed couch potato who wants to move more? Or an ultra-runner who wants to learn to slow down? Perhaps you are a family longing to spend more time together outdoors in our beautiful island?

Anyone can take part in the 10K Walk For Pain Support and it’s a brilliant opportunity raise vital funds to support our work. Anybody can commit to take part in the run and raise funds for Pain Support via Wonderful. We want to encourage as many people as possible to set up a fundraising page for the event. It’s important to us that we receive every penny raised by our committed fundraisers and Wonderful makes sure of that!

If we limited you to just three words to describe Wonderful, what would they be?

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
