About Big Life UK

Big Life Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of East Africas wildlife and ecosystems through a holistic community-based collaborative approach. Big Life UK is the UK arm of the Big Life Foundation. Co-founded by photographer Nick Brandt and award-winning conservationist Richard Bonham in September 2010, since its inception, Big Life has expanded to protecting 2 million acres of wilderness in the Amboseli-Tsavo-Kilimanjaro ecosystem of East Africa. We were the first organisation in this region of Africa to establish coordinated cross-border anti-poaching operations. Big Life works on the ground in Africa, partnering with communities to protect nature for the benefit of all. Please donate to help keep our operations running.

Pounds for Paddy

Hi everyone, (Please read until the end!) I have taken the plunge and decided to run the Brighton Marathon next April for 2 major reasons. I have chosen to run it to raise money for the Big Life Foundation, a conservation foundation which helps to combat poaching and protect wildlife throughout East Africa. Its work on anti-poaching is very important since some experts estimate that as many as 35,000 elephants a year are being slaughtered, 10 of Africa's elephant population each year alone. The danger is also very prominent for Rhinos who Big Life aim to protect as well. To highlight an example of its amazing work, since its founding in 2010 up until 2013, Big Life succeeded in making 1,030 arrests and confiscated 3,012 weapons. Big Life now apprehend poachers most times that they kill. This incredible work continues to happen but needs your help in order to continue in being successful. The second major reason and the initial driving force behind deciding to run the marathon, is Paddy, a man who was a huge part of my life from the age of 10, and who very tragically committed suicide earlier this year. Originally I thought of running for Mind, another incredible charity which works to try and combat mental health across the UK, but thought that Paddy would be really happy to know I was doing it for Big Life. Through working for many years as a riding safari guide in Africa, Paddy was a massive advocate for conservation organizations and the protection of Africa, a place extremely close to his heart. So let's do this for Paddy and the incredible organization Big Life, which he so fondly supported. Any donation would be hugely appreciated. I know many of you will be students so don't stress, a couple of quid would be amazing. Thank you so so much, will keep you updated on my progress x

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
