Dementia Club UK is a place where people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia can attend with their own carers and families. We also welcome those who have lost someone with dementia and are now lonely.
The sessions are free but any donations are always welcome. The 2 hour sessions provide various activities for everyone to participate and enjoy. We do quizzes, singing, brain teaser games, poetry, bingo, drawing and colouring, painting, arts and crafts, table tennis, magnetic darts, putting golf and skittles. The charity has also bought a Tovertafel which is Dutch for Magic Table which is an interactive projected game system that’s great fun for all the family.
We also do some gentle exercises to music; chair yoga and tai chi and we also have musical entertainers. Music is a key pathway to reactivating memories. We sometimes have guest speakers and Dementia Club UK also do outings a few times a year. Some of the outings we’ve been to are: 10 Downing Street, Kew Gardens, Southend on Sea for Fish and Chips, Bletchley Park, Ruislip Lido, Hotel Chocolat and Blenheim Palace.
Dementia Club UK is a place of respite where you can forget about all your problems and challenges and just have fun. You will meet and make friends with other carers in a social atmosphere whilst enjoying a cup of tea/coffee and lovely cakes. You are in a place where if you want to talk about your problems and challenges you can rest assured that you will be understood. We also have our 2 GPs who volunteer their time and attend most sessions offering to take your blood pressure and provide you with any medical advice.
