About Gratitude

Saving and Sharing Food with the Community

Gratitude started in the home of husband and wife, John and Sheila. They invited a dozen less fortunate people to their home for dinner. Sheila cooked a scrumptious dinner for them from unsold food donated by the supermarkets.

Five years on, Gratitude now serves an average of 40 people from all walks of life a delightful meal every Wednesday at St Theresa's Hall in Borehamwood. They meal is from food perfectly fit for consumption but unfortunately have passed their sell by date. Supermarket all over UK dispose of thousands of tons of food day after day just because it's gone pass it's best. Gratitude aims to lessen this waste and help the community especially those who are in financial hardship by providing meals and delivering food to their homes.

Apart from the No Waste Wednesday lunch, Gratitude also delivers food to various charities and shelters around Borehamwood, helping feed an average of 250 people weekly.

Gratitude now has over 20 volunteers who help in cooking, collection from supermarkets, distribution of food to the community, administration and many more important tasks.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
