About Greenwich Dance

Greenwich Dance is a charity operating in South East London. Our remit is to create more opportunities to make, watch and take part in dance - regardless of age, experience or background.

We work with young people, older people and everyone in between to promote the many benefits of dance for creativity, confidence, wellbeing, social cohesion and tackling obesity.

We believe strongly that there should be equal access to cultural provision. We work hard to bring world-class dance and professional artists to the very heart of our communities, with classes, performances and creative projects in local schools, community centres and outdoor spaces such as parks and high streets.

We believe that you can be YOU when you dance.

Take a look at the work we do below and if it resonates with you please do donate!

Your support, big or small, can make all the difference to the people we work with and the places where we work.

Feel free to use the site to donate now (we are not charged an admin fee) or if you'd like to discuss ongoing support for the organisation, perhaps via standing order or a larger gift, we would be delighted to talk to you about possibilities.

Call us on 020 8293 9741 and ask to speak to Melanie.

Thank you.

Dance for Older People

Our regular recreational class for over 55's provides people with a meeting place and reason to come together to make friends, learn something new and practice a skill.

Regular weekly sessions set up a pattern and help to create routine and markers within the week for those who feel as if social interaction is limited. Regular sessions also encourage the building of long-term relationships and connections and often our recreational classes will end in something social – be that a trip to see a dance performance or an opportunity to share tea and cake at the end of a term!

We also have a performance group for those who want to develop their skills and experience further and who enjoy the opportunityto showcase their skills to their peers. The ethos of creating performance groups brings about the sense of being a part of a new dance family, working to create art together which is then shared and appreciated by friends, family and peers as well as residents and visitors of the Borough.

The eclectic music ranges from classical to pop and world music and our dance artist Maria Ghoumrassi draws from a vast range of influences such as modern, contemporary and African dance.

“We all enjoy the physical workouts and socialising that these classes create & I think that most, if not all, of us, look forward to giving pleasure to an audience showing what senior citizens can do!!!” Dancing to the Music of Time participant

Your donation to the programme, which is currently unfunded, will help us to cover our running costs. What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
