Healthy n Happy is a local charity and the community development trust for Cambuslang and Rutherglen. We are a community owned organisation, run by local people, for local people.
We want to make Cambuslang and Rutherglen the healthiest and happiest places to live in Scotland.
We run services to increase confidence and self-esteem, to boost skills and relationships, to raise awareness of health issues and healthy living, and to support residents to take action in their local neighbourhoods. These include volunteering, mental health, stress management and family support, healthy living and social activities, anti-stigma campaigning, community capacity building and local activism.
We also operate CamGlen Radio, a community radio station which broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Bike Town cycling hub that aims to get everyone cycling, and Number 18, a local community hub which promotes health and wellbeing and social cohesion. From local residents working towards positive changes in their neighbourhood, to DJs on CamGlen Radio, volunteers are key to Healthy n Happy's strategy. We have 245 volunteers, helping us to engage with more than 7000 people each year.
Healthy n Happy really appreciate kind donations from the public to continue making a real difference within Cambuslang and Rutherglen.
For example, a donation of £5 will provide tea, toast & fruit for 12 Parent Café parents and babies/toddlers, so they can interact, make friends and have a wonderful time.
£10 will provide 1 hours hall hire for community/residents meeting, so local people can work together to identify local priorities and take collective action to affect positive change in their neighborhood
£25 will provide an hours training/lesson for 6 people to basic bike maintenance so they are enabled to fix their own bike and be able to independently cycle
£50 will purchase materials (tools and wood) that enable people who enjoy building garden furniture, from bird boxes to picnic benches, to create exciting products for their local community.
