“Magic Lantern is a wonderful art education enterprise!”
Professor Sir Simon Schama, April 2018
Magic Lantern (http://www.magiclanternart.org.uk/) is an educational charity that delivers inspiring and accessible art history workshops in schools around the country demonstrating that anyone can enjoy and understand art. Magic Lantern is the only UK charity to use art history interactively in schools to educate across the whole school curriculum.
We are small but our impact is big: we deliver more than 400 workshops each year, reaching in excess of 12,000 children in over 100 different places of learning. Our work proves that art can be a gateway to virtually any subject in the curriculum and that exploring art helps develop skills including critical thinking, problem solving and confidence. Our approach is designed to particularly help children who have not had previously had the opportunity to engage with the arts and who might be reticent to participate in traditional lessons. The majority of children we visit have never stepped inside a museum before being inspired by our “pop-up” art galleries in their classroom. We also work with adult groups, including those in prison and with special needs.

“Amazing workshop, really brought the children’s imaginations to life. All children could access the tasks and felt like their options were valued. I had some children who never talk come out with some amazing vocabulary!”

“One specific pupil who rarely engages with learning was keen and motivated for the whole hour. The delivery of the session was great and the children loved the resources and the activities. I would highly recommend this session.”
“Magic Lantern is valuable because children who struggle to access other areas of the curriculum often shine. I was particularly impressed during this session by a particular child who can find learning challenging having the confidence to go to the front and make detailed observations.”
“All the children are so engaged and it’s really nice to see children that don’t always contribute in class sessions having lots to say in the workshops. I really liked the active participation used in the lesson. It’s accessible to all learners.”

The Co-operative Bank are proud to be the main sponsorship partner of the Wonderful Organisation supporting charities to make a difference by ensuring 100% of donations go directly to doing good. Learn more about the Bank’s values and ethics.
We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.
We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.
We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
