Ed's Traverse of the Pyrenees
In July and August 2019, I will walk a large part of the GR11 trail in Spain. This will be from the Atlantic coast at Irún, across the Pyrenees and through Andorra to Puigcerdá. This is about 450km of distance, or 35/40 days of walking. The bulk of the route is in high, remote mountain terrain. I am walking this alone, but I'd like it to be more than just an exercise in personal gratification. Hence, I'm also using the experience to raise money for Mind, a mental health charity in the UK.
Mind is a charity that does fantastic work, centred around giving support, advice, and a listening ear to those who are going through hard times with no-one to talk to. Mind "empowers people to understand their condition and the choices available to them".
In the past, I have struggled severely with mental health issues. Now that I am well on the way down the road to recovery, I want to help others who also grapple with these issues, so that we can share the journey to mental wellbeing.
