About Mind

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem. With your help, we can help people like Laura:

'Mind brought me back from the edge. Without them, I don't know how I would've found a way out. They helped me change the course of my life.'

We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone and without your generosity we would not be able to provide people with the vital information and support that can change their lives for the better. Your support will help us improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues.

Last year:

  • Our network of over 140 local Minds supported 375,000 people, through services such as counselling and back to work mentoring.
  • 65,000 queries were answered by our Helplines;
  • 460,000 free information booklets distributed through our local Minds and charity shops;
  • 10.7 million visited our website; and
  • 27,000 people received support through our online community Elefriends, with 80% feeling more supported since joining.

However there is still so much more that we need to do.

Dusk till Dawn 12hour Hike challange

In July 2017 I had a massive panic attack in the middle of my work day. My arms were numb, I couldn't feel my hands, my vision was blurred, my face was tingling, I was choaking. I had no idea anxiety could cause such physical symptoms.Fast forward to the end of the week, after more attacks, I received a diagnosis of Generalised anxiety disorder and a suspicion of Traumatic grief disorder.There is a MASSIVE stigma around mental health problems in the UK. We are taught to be ashamed and told to 'get on with it'. I experienced it second hand when my Mum was suffering with her mental health and I now know first hand. It is for these reasons I would love to bring awareness and raise money for Mind UK. People need to be aware of the charities, services and support that IS available to them. You do not need to suffer in silence.Recently I am doing much better and I don't take medication anymore however I still use CBT techniques, meditation and walking to calm any feelings of anxiety. It was actually during one of these walks I decided I wanted to take on this challenge.So...on Saturday 13th October 2018 I will begin a 12hour trek through the spectacular Cornish countryside and coastline to raise money for Mind - it’s a tough challenge for anyone but especially for someone as out of shape as me!My walk will be dedicated to Samantha Jane Atkin, my Mum 💕Thank you for your time reading this (sorry it was long!) and I hope I can count on your support, however big or small, on achieving my £500 target.Tasha x.x.x.x

Lauren's Charity Skydive

I'll be flying/falling with style through the sky from 3,000 feet up in the air, but don't worry, I haven't gone totally crazy (yet!) as it's all for the sake of raising money for charity!I have decided to do a sponsored skydive in support of Mind who are a fantastic mental health charity. I chose Mind because during a difficult time in my own life, their website was able to point me in the right direction and help me get back on track. I know a few people in my personal life that struggle with severe mental health difficulties and do not receive the proper help that they need, I'm at a point now where I desperately want to raise not only money but awareness in aid of the inexplicable amount of people who suffer in silence and to make a significant contribution to ensure that nobody has to go through it alone.So about the actual jump then? I have chosen to do a static line jump which means that I will be jumping alone from 3,000 feet secured onto a line that opens my parachute for me as I exit the aircraft! I will be receiving a full days training to learn about the equipment, exiting the aircraft, reserve drills and controlling my landing and then completing the jump the day after, the date of the jump is currently the 20th of July 2018.The target is currently set at £360 as this is the minimum donation I need in order for the charity to fund the dive and make sure they make enough money to support their services, obviously I am aiming higher than this!I understand not everybody has money they can donate but everything helps no matter how big or small the amount! If you cant donate then please give this a share and help me reach as many people and raise as much money as possible!Thank you for taking the time to read this, if anyone has any questions or would like to contact me about this then feel free to email me at: [email protected]

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
