Once Upon a Smile was founded in 2011, by Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller to provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families after it became apparent that there was a lack of support for families after the death of a loved one.
The charity is the only bereavement charity in the UK to offer a variety of support to families through such a difficult time, it understands that families are often left to grieve alone with no, or little support available and this can often have a devastating impact on family life and children
The charity identified many support agencies if a loved one was ill or had a terminal illness, but nothing for the family after the death. At this point founders made their decision, the new charity was going to provide support to families that had suffered the loss of a loved one, and was going to specifically be an after care for these families.

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.
We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.
We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
