My longest sponsored run ever

On Saturday 2 June I am doing my longest sponsored run ever from Peterborough to Stotfold to help raise £400 for a great local charity Respite at Home Volunteers West Mid Beds and Ivel Valley (RHV), so that they can recruit and train some new volunteers, who in turn will give their free time to support people with life limiting illnesses and allow their families to have some time off from caring for their loved ones. From a very personal point I believe that volunteers are the most important part of any small charity. Infact without their dedication to help others in need quite simply these groups would not exist. I know this because my wife volunteers and works for RHV and on a weekly basis she supports people with life limiting illnesses together with their families. My wife gives her time freely to support others in need and often goes the extra mile to help. I would say that anyone who volunteers for this type of work are very special people indeed. Not only do they offer friendship but they also offer the family a chance to have some time off from the exhausting role of caring for someone they love. This allows the family time for themselves to go out see a friend, take up a hobby or just rest. The volunteers do not have to have prior experience of a life limiting illness, but the qualities they all have are warmth, reliability, empathy, common sense and a ready smile. As the need for this service increases in the local community then obviously more volunteers are needed to offer patients and their families the time and support they need. This is why I am running 50 miles as I want to help raise £400 so this fantastic organisation can recruit and train some new volunteers and make sure they are prepared and supported to help others who are living with Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinsons, Stroke, Huntington’s Disease and MS. I know volunteers help huge amounts of people giving their free time, and as I love running this is one way I can give something back to my local communitySo look out for me on Saturday 2 June where I will be pounding those pavements for this great cause and please help if you can! Thank you all for your support.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
