Run Laura Run the Great North Run
It was way back in September 2018 that I decided to take on the challenge of The Great North Run a year later.
Little did I know that there would be a lot of lows and injuries. I now know all about a hip flexor, I've discovered that vaseline is an essential; and I've gone through the struggles of finding the right sports bra!
My calves are hard as a rock, my feet look horrendous...but I cannot describe how great I now feel training for the run. I no longer finish a run; red as a tomato, coughing and not able to feel my legs...instead I feel invigorated!
It's taken months to get to this point, at the beginning I would do anything to put off going for a run; it's too dark, too hot, i'm tired, it's raining.... I always thought of Scarlett O'Hara in 'Gone With The Wind' saying 'Tomorrow is another day' and kept putting off training, thinking the run was months away.
But now it's just over a month to go to race day and really hope that my training has paid off. That I can raise money for Self Help Africa to provide farmers in rural Africa with the skills and training to grow enough food to feed their families, something we we all take for granted.
