Southend Foodbank 2019 walking challenge
We're walking for Southend Foodbank! The foodbank needs funds to keep supporting our community, so this summer we're getting out and about around Southend to take on a 5km stride or stroll.☀️JULY☀️Let's start the summer holiday with family walks for Southend Foodbank. Bring the family, plenty of sun protection and get active!In July, we'll meet on two Mondays: 22nd and 29th July at 10am for a 10.15am start at Three Shells Beach, Southend. Choose your own distance - 1k, 3k or 5k - out and back along the esplanade. Complete an activity trail sheet along the way (optional). Everyone finishes back at Three Shells Beach. Come to one or both walks to complete your distance.☀️AUGUST☀️Take the Southend Foodbank 5k challenge on holiday with you. Get creative and a plan a 5k your own way. Pick a challenge:The longest 5k. A 30 minute 5k is just as far as a 30 day 5k. Take your time, divide the distance into manageable chunks and add up to a full 5km across August.The most Southend 5k. Make your own route and tell us about your way to 5k that really represents the best bits of our local area.The furthest 5k. How far away from Southend can you take your Southend Foodbank 5k? Take a snapshot including your coordinates and we'll be looking out for how far we can spread the word.Take a snapshot when you're done, to show your distance or route, and post it on #SouthendFoodbank5kChallenge
This is a fundraising walk and we'd love you to help us raise lots of sponsorship but there is no minimum amount you have to raise to take part. We suggest people joining the walk aim at £10 as a fundraising goal. Recent foodbank guests are welcome to take part without a sponsorship target.If you're on Facebook, you can sign up by clicking 'going' on the event on the Southend Foodbank page. Participants should take reasonable care when taking part in the walk. Events are not timed.Approximate distances are provided as an indication of the level of fitness and stamina that the route demands. This is an outdoor event and participants should check the weather conditions on the day and dress appropriately. Shelter, first aid, water, sunscreen or other supplies are not provided.Public toilets are situated at various points near the walking routes but we cannot guarantee availability on the day.Every effort will be made for the walks to go ahead as scheduled but may be cancelled, including cancelling on the day of the walk, in the event of adverse walking conditions.If there are large numbers of participants, start times may be staggered on the day to promote shared use of space.Everyone is welcome but children under 18 should have permission from their parent/carer/guardian before taking part. Children under 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.All local laws and regulations of expected conduct should be observed. Walkers should be respectful of other people also using the promenade and pavement. Dogs should be kept under control, on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for picking up after their animals.Southend Foodbank does not accept liability for any loss, damage or cost associated with taking part in the sponsored walk.
