Laura's Half Marathon
Originally set up in 1973 by a group of parents inspired by Olga Korbut in the 1972 Olympics. The club grew from strength to strength and in the early 1990’s , with the help of a grant from The Sports Council of England and YMCA, purchased an old egg packing factory to convert to the gymnastics facility the club now uses.
Southport Gymnastics Club is Sefton’s only “pitted” gymnastics facility allowing our gymnasts to train safely at all levels, we even boast a number of international gymnasts amongst the ranks, including Daniel Purvis, Frank Baines and Kate Meadow. The club is also very proud to be the home of the Scorpion Cheerleaders. Our Scorpion Stingers group recently won the British Championships and went on to represent the country at the European Cheerleading Championships in Slovenia. Now running as a charity in it’s own right, from September 2016 we welcome gymnasts, cheerleaders and parents old and new to join us as we endeavour to
grow our club for the next generation.
I have fantastic memories of being a gymnast and coach myself and absolutely love being involved in the club again.
