  • We provide support and information to anybody affected by or concerned about lupus.

  • We raise funds to provide facilities, equipment and services for NHS hospitals and Foundation Trusts for the benefit of lupus patients.

Fight Against Lupus 2020

6 months after Alice and James' wedding day, their lives turned inside out.
Alice survived meningitis, a blood clot on her lung, sepsis and double pneumonia over Christmas 2012. In November 2013, she had her first real flare Alice woke up and couldn’t move.
On the 2nd January 2014 Alice was diagnosed with lupus and Sjogren’s syndrome. The main symptoms she has is the inability to move due to pain and swelling of her joints. Alice also gets a butterfly rash on her face, her hair falls out and suffers with really bad fatigue.
6 years after being diagnosed, their lives are still affected by the Lupus. After various different medication, including chemotherapy based drugs, Alice is on her 7thimmunosuppressant, and that still hasn’t fully controlled the Lupus. We can’t really plan ahead too much as we don’t know how Alice will be from 1 day to the next.
Alice has had to retire from being a sports coach and special needs teaching assistant at the age of 30. They were told they would never be able to have children, but luckily their miracle baby girl arrived in October 2019.
Before Alice’s diagnosis I was not a runner and couldn’t run more than 30 seconds without having to stop. I took running up to begin with to take part in fundraising events and raise awareness of Lupus in our local area. As well as this however I found it helped me to relax and clear my mind during some of the difficult times. Since then I have completed 3 half marathons (including last years Coventry Half Marathon), multiple 10k events, regular ParkRun goer and I joined my local running club, Daventry Road Runners.

#TeamAlice was set up by Alice's family and friends, as part of the Hibbs Lupus Trust. We raise awareness and money through running and hosting social events. So far we have raised nearly £20,000 in 4 years.
The Hibbs Lupus Trust have been fantastic to Alice and her family. The Hibbs Lupus Trust, has provided us with the opportunity to meet other people in a similar situation. We share stories, support each other and have support meetings with guest speakers; consultants, physios, OT’s and alternative therapies. We’ve gained knowledge, shared experiences and found people who understand. This has been invaluable to us all. So much so, that we started our own support group in Coventry supported by UHCW Rheumatology team for the people of Coventry and Warwickshire.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
