About The Rotary Club of Furness Charitable Trust

The Rotary Club of Furness has been running the Tour de Furness for over 20 years - during this time we have raised over £396k for a huge number of charities, all nominated by our riders.

Our Tour de Furness was originally conceived to raise money for our local hospice St Mary's at Ulverston, this has been widened to encompass many charities close to the hearts of our riders.

All of our rides begin and end at Roose Conservative Club, we have 4 rides, catering for all abilities, starting with our 5 mile ride for the kiddies, which is almost all on footpaths following the old railway route to Rampside.

Next we have our original Tour de Furness ride, a 13 mile ride through Low Furness, skirting the edge of Morecambe Bay, turning in land to Furness Abbey and finishing on the outskirts of Barrow in Furness.

We then go up a notch, to our 23 mile ride for those cyclists feeling a little more adventurous, taking the Coast Road as far as Bardsea and then inland to Urswick, Gleaston and at Leece joins the finals few miles of the Tour de Furness.

Finally we have our 50 mile ride, our most popular one which takes in the whole of the Furness Peninsula and circumnavigates Lake Coniston.

Come along and have a great day out for all the family and make some money for charity.

That can be our main charity, St Mary's Hospice, for our Rotary Charities or for your own particular favourite. Its entirely upto you. Oh and by the way, we feed you as well ! Soft drinks and water etc on the rides and hot or cold drinks and bacon buns or vegetarian option at the finish.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
