Team Gravesend RC’s story

We are rowing for 48 hours non-stop to raise money for Gravesend RC so we can get more people, especially juniors, out on the river.

Our growing junior membership means we regularly run out of boats for our juniors to use, limiting how many people we can get rowing at any one time. Last year we purchased a second hand 8, renamed Neptune, which needs a fair amount of work to get it out on the river.

Given we operate in one of the more deprived parts of the South East, and are keen to keep our membership open to everyone, we have some of the lowest membership rates of any rowing club in the area. Unfortunately, this means large repairs such as this are beyond us without a focused fundraising effort.

The money raised will go towards repairs to Neptune, allowing us to get more young people rowing, reconnecting with the river heritage of the town, and meaning we can enter adult and junior crews into both local and national events.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Gravesend Rowing Club

Gravesend Rowing Club is the oldest sports club in Gravesend, and one of the oldest rowing clubs on the tidal Thames. We have a long history of competitive rowing, with Henley competitors and Coat & Doggetts winners in our past. Today, we are focused on renewing the connection between the people of Gravesend and the river, introducing young people from across our community to the sport of rowing, and making what has been regarded as an elitist sport open to people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities for both social and competitive rowing.

Registered Charity Number: 1167701.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
