Team 7th Epsom Madagascar’s story
We are a group of 21 Scouts and 8 Leaders from 7th Epsom (Methodist) Scout Group who are travelling to Madagascar in 2020. We are fundraising for the projects that we are going to undertake whilst there. We are all paying the full cost of our travel and 18 months of team building so every penny that we raise goes towards these projects. Our fundraising will consist of quiz nights and car washes to a sponsored walk and anything else that we can do - we will even do house clearances or tidy up your garden! Please see www.7thepsomexpedition.org.uk for our latest exploits!
On our previous trips to Uganda we have worked with local Scouts to build fresh water springs for local villages and we've updated their scout campsite facilities. In 2015, a group of 11 Scouts and 6 leaders went to Tanzania and helped to build two classrooms and a toilet block for a local school.
This year we are travelling to the new destination of Madagascar. We are unsure about our actual projects yet (update to come this August) but we are hoping to work with the local Tily Scouts. We have a link with Akany Avoko Faravohitra, which is an inspirational children’s refuge in Madagascar caring for destitute, abandoned and neglected girls. The centre provides a safe haven, stable home, love, care and education to girls in need regardless of their background. And we would like to do some work with WaterAid as well as almost half of Madagascans have no clean water, and around nine in ten still have nowhere decent to go to the toilet. The Tily Scouts also help WaterAid to deliver their water hygiene education programme.
Please remember to add GiftAid if you are a UK Tax payer as we'll get an extra 28p for every £1 you donate.
Thank you very much for reading our page and for your support.
