Helen’s story

My mum has been living with Dementia for many years now. Life with this disease is a constant challenge; full of confusion, frustration and upset. In November, we heard about the Living Well Project who run cafes to support those with Dementia. For one afternoon every week, mum sings, dances, plays games and chats to other people with a big smile on her face. I am so grateful. I would love to raise some money for their funds and promote more awareness of their work. If you can spare anything towards this, it will hopefully push me towards that 10k finish line. Thank you.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Living Well Project

At the Living Well Cafes we provide a safe and welcoming environment for people living with dementia or memory loss and their carers. Dementia can have a devastating effect on the whole family and support is needed just as much for carers as for those living with dementia. At the cafes we offer a range of activities with a strong emphasis on music. We encourage people to dance and sing and sometimes we reminisce and have a trip down memory lane. Each week we enjoy a game of Boccia (it's a paralympic sport, just like indoor bowls) - it always goes down well with people and can get very competitive! We are dependent on volunteers to help out and are very grateful for their support. We have four cafes throughout Aberdeen City, running on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Registered Charity Number: SC042266.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
