Up, up, and up still more, my Condor and I will be traversing the Alpine and Pyrenees roads between Nice and Barcelona with the BBBikers this September.
1) For my health
I have this year transitioned from being a hospital doctor, to working in General Practice. I now for the first time work a sedentary, office-based job, where I sit at a desk for 10 hours a day Hours are long, days are busy, and I got lazy. In 6months I have put on 6kg, an issue I need to address urgently.
I was therefore looking for a goal, something to get me back in the saddle as it were, when my friend Lucy volunteered me for this ride.
2) For my chosen charities
- TASF- a Wiltshire based charity creating opportunities for youth participation in sport (75% proceeds). See bottom of page
- DMI- international charity delivering heath promotion and education materials though radio and television broadcasting to poorly resourced communities in the developing world (25% proceeds).
The costs of this tour are fully covered by corporate sponsorship, therefore all money raised goes directly to these charities
3) For Fun
For the BBBikers, this will be their third tour, having already completed leg 1: Cirencester to Paris, and leg 2: Paris to Nice. I am looking forward to being a new member of the BBB team for this next stage.
The challenge of this ride, will be outmatched only by the beauty of the countryside and mountain views, a true experience of a lifetime. In training I'm enjoying seeing much of unexplored Wiltshire countryside, and re-learning the delights of padded Lycra and Chamois cream.
