Team Hill’s story
For almost 30 years, the staff and students of Gravesend Grammar School have undertaken an annual Sponsored Walk of approximately 13 miles around the Kent countryside to support charities chosen by the School and particular school needs.
Half the money raised each year goes to the school’s own charity “GGS School Development Fund” with the remainder divided between two charities chosen by the students - which this year will be Scope and Choices. Scope is the disability equality charity in England and Wales which campaigns for equality for disabled people and Choices is a charity working to help eradicate domestic abuse.
Other charities that have benefitted in recent years have included Khalsa Aid, Porchlight, KASBAH, MIND, UNICEF, RNLI Gravesend, Crohns and Colitis, Teenage Cancer Trust, Ellenor Lions Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK.
The GGS School Development Fund has been used for many things, most recently in May 2018 to develop the school’s Cadet Force parade ground and picnic area. It was also used to fund the initial planning and engineering costs of the Sanderson Sports Centre in 2009.
