Imagine me, on a mountain bike that isn't my own, in 25-30 degree heat, cycling 350km in the foothills of Mount Kenya over the space of a week. And through a game reserve with lions in it. Not quite like diving with sharks (Barney!) but I've not cycled since I left school!!!
Claire and I have sponsored Sharon through high school in Nairobi, as part of the RRB Foundation.
This ride is to fund the creation of a second cycle club in a school in the Kibera slums. The first club is great project for the children involved. They say they're fitter, healthier, have learnt to share and to fix their bikes, and have built a strong group of sensible friends as a result. They can see a future for themselves. One boy said he wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for the cycling club. The school principal says school attendance has increased and the children show more confidence and engagement in their school work.
So this next fundraising challenge is raising money to start a second cycling club in another school, and enable another group of students to find good influences to shape their futures.
I am paying all my own costs, so every penny of the money raised via this page will all go to the Foundation. If you can gift aid it also, then that adds another 25% to what you give. The Wonderful donation site I'm using is great because it's a non-profit organisation itself and doesn't charge any service or processing fees.
Thanks for reading to the end!
