Jim’s story

Having successfully restored the scheduled buildings at Kirkmichael in the Black Isle, we are now repairing and restoring our wonderful memorials and mausolea for everyone to enjoy. Donations go to having our precious medieval memorials and other heritage stones professionally conserved and repaired. Our work has won a Scottish Heritage Angels award, and lots of other awards. Every Saturday, come rain or shine, our dedicated work party of volunteers maintains Kirkmichael for visitors to appreciate and to ensure that the restored Kirkmichael is sustainably managed for future generations. Money raised which exceeds targets for this specific appeal will be passed to the Kirkmichael Trust SCIO for general purposes.

 Have a look at our very popular Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/kirkmichaeltrust/ for events and updates and our fantastic website https://www.kirkmichael.info which contains a remarkable local and family history resource for people across the world who have a connection with Kirkmichael, the parish of Resolis and the Highlands of Scotland.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Kirkmichael Trust SCIO

The Kirkmichael Trust was formally established in April 2002 to rescue the Kirkmichael site in the Black Isle from dereliction and secure a management and maintenance regime to sustain the buildings and the kirkyard site for the future. We successfully restored the buildings over the period 2016 to 2018, winning several national awards for this work. Having rescued the buildings, we are now working to repair mausolea and monuments and restore the kirkyard itself from decades of neglect.

On 19 July 2018, the Trust converted to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, becoming The Kirkmichael Trust SCIO (SC033652), having charitable status under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005. Our aims as set out in our constitution are the advancement of education and the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science, to be achieved by the preservation for the benefit of the public of the Kirkmichael Church, associated Mausoleums and Graveyard at Resolis, Ross-shire and in furtherance thereof:–

(a) to acquire, (whether by purchase or lease) restore and maintain the said Kirkmichael Church and associated Mausoleums and to seek appropriate management of the Graveyard;

(b) to promote and organise co-operation among community, statutory and voluntary organisations in pursuit of the objects of the Kirkmichael Trust SCIO;

(c) to procure and provide information through publications, electronic media or otherwise relating to said Kirkmichael Church and Graveyard, and

(d) to organise public meetings, exhibitions, lectures and classes in order to promote the objects of the Kirkmichael Trust SCIO.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
