Team Let's do it for ME’s story
Team Let's Do It for ME raises funds for Invest in ME Research to support their UK Centre of Excellence for ME biomedical research and medical education projects.
The biomedical research programme got underway at Quadram Institute Bioscience in 2014. The starting point is the gut, the site of most of the immune system and implicated in several diseases, including ME, though cause and effect is as yet unknown.
The research has investigated whether microbes leak from the gut in ME causing an autoimmune response whereby the body attacks its own cells and tissue. The next phase aiming to begin in 2020 is a clinical treatment trial.
The trial will cost over £800,000. Invest in ME Research has pledged half the amount and needs your help to raise as much more as possible, bearing in mind that funds are also needed for the other vitally important work in progress.
Thank you if you have your own fundraising initiatives to support the trial, otherwise thank you for sponsoring and sharing our page.

Bacteriotherapy and Clinical Trials - RESTORE-ME: A Quadram Institute based Clinical Trial in ME
Purpose: To undertake a study to determine the effectiveness of faecal microbiome transplantation as a treatment for ME: The RESTORE-ME study
Aim: To determine if there is a cause and effect relationship between a dysbiotic intestinal microbiota and ME by determining if treatment by FMT can resolve ME symptoms.
The charity received an application and this has gone through an independent peer-review process satisfactorily.
Following this the charity has pledged half of the required funding.
The charity and Quadram Institute are actively looking at ways to fund the remaining amount required.
This project harnesses practically all elements of the Centre of Excellence for ME and would be a showcase for ME clinical trial and research.
Professor Simon Carding described the Quadram Institute ME research and the trial at the Invest in ME Research Conference May 2019.
Thanks for your support!
