Team VG Marauders’s story
We've (foolheartedly) decided to use Mobike, Manchester's bicycle sharing platform to ride from the centre of Manchester to Liverpool's Albert Dock and back.
Our route will follow the Trans Pennine Trail and cover approximately 60 miles. Our in-depth analysis indicates we will be travelling at an average speed of 5mph, topping out at a blistering 7 or 8mph. If we complete the ride in less than 20 hours we'll be well chuffed.
We are raising money for Veterans Garage, a social enterprise that aims to support ex-servicemen and women across the North West by creating a social hub, offering support and advice services and providing facilities to learn new skills.
Why is the project called Veterans Garage? There is no better collective noun for a group of automotive enthusiasts than "a community". The Garage will ultimately provide a kick-ass meeting place for car, motorcycle & scooter enthusiasts, complimented by a classic car & motorcycle restoration facility which is run by and for North West Veterans to fund an on-site PTSD support centre.
A core aim of the project is that it will be predominantly self-sufficient however it is still early days and a lot of ground still needs to be covered. Support for Veterans Garage has poured in from many different sectors, from volunteers labouring on-site to the provision of land, raw materials and professional consultancy.
Our personal support for the project will be in the form of whatever money we can raise for our stupidity.
Wish us luck.
