Team VG Marauders’s story

We've (foolheartedly) decided to use Mobike, Manchester's bicycle sharing platform to ride from the centre of Manchester to Liverpool's Albert Dock and back.

Our route will follow the Trans Pennine Trail and cover approximately 60 miles. Our in-depth analysis indicates we will be travelling at an average speed of 5mph, topping out at a blistering 7 or 8mph. If we complete the ride in less than 20 hours we'll be well chuffed.

We are raising money for Veterans Garage, a social enterprise that aims to support ex-servicemen and women across the North West by creating a social hub, offering support and advice services and providing facilities to learn new skills.

Why is the project called Veterans Garage? There is no better collective noun for a group of automotive enthusiasts than "a community". The Garage will ultimately provide a kick-ass meeting place for car, motorcycle & scooter enthusiasts, complimented by a classic car & motorcycle restoration facility which is run by and for North West Veterans to fund an on-site PTSD support centre.

A core aim of the project is that it will be predominantly self-sufficient however it is still early days and a lot of ground still needs to be covered. Support for Veterans Garage has poured in from many different sectors, from volunteers labouring on-site to the provision of land, raw materials and professional consultancy.

Our personal support for the project will be in the form of whatever money we can raise for our stupidity.

Wish us luck.

Veterans Garage

Veterans' Garage is a unique approach to providing support to Military Veterans across the North West to have a stable social hub, to learn new skills, and receive the support and advice that is available to them.

Our aim is to build a hub for ex-servicemen and the local community to come together, creating a facility that can serve as a venue for unique events that can raise funds and awareness for local causes.

Our community project is to restore a Grade 2 listed WWII airport terminal building into a base for a classic car & motorcycle restoration garage. Supporting North West Veterans suffering from recent combat stress, the garage will also work to alleviate some of the loneliness and isolation of the older generation.

There is no better term for the world of Automotive enthusiasts than 'community'. Traditionally automotive and aviation events have always brought people together, but the universal subject nature creates a diverse collective of people, of all ages, genders, races or religion that is unlike any other interest group.

Our wonderful partners

Our wonderful partners - who support us with cash and services - make it possible for us to pass EVERY PENNY raised from your fundraising efforts and generous donations to our charities, including Gift Aid. Of course, we would be unable to do so without them.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
