Team Not Just Travel’s story

More than 50 people will be trekking to the Lost City in Colombia on a mission to raise as much money for Mind as possible this October.

For Not Just Travel co-founders Steve Witt and Paul Harrison, the charity challenge has a special significance.

Steve’s brother and business partner Robin was diagnosed with rapid onset frontal temporal dementia aphasia at the age of just 42. This very rare form of dementia means that Robin, a father of two young children, not only has dementia, but has also lost the ability to communicate. This naturally has had a detrimental impact on his overall mental health and well-being.

Steve and the Not Just Travel team have chosen Mental Health charity MIND as their 2019 charity partners and all funds from the trek will go towards funding essential projects. MIND wants to ensure that no one faces a mental health problem alone.

They provide advice and support to those who need  it as well as campaigning to raise awareness, promote a better understanding of all mental health conditions and improve services. MIND supports over 390,000 people across England and Wales, offering crisis helplines, counselling, befriending and employment

or training schemes.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Updates

Mind

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem. With your help, we can help people like Laura:

'Mind brought me back from the edge. Without them, I don't know how I would've found a way out. They helped me change the course of my life.'

We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone and without your generosity we would not be able to provide people with the vital information and support that can change their lives for the better. Your support will help us improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues.

Last year:

  • Our network of over 140 local Minds supported 375,000 people, through services such as counselling and back to work mentoring.
  • 65,000 queries were answered by our Helplines;
  • 460,000 free information booklets distributed through our local Minds and charity shops;
  • 10.7 million visited our website; and
  • 27,000 people received support through our online community Elefriends, with 80% feeling more supported since joining.

However there is still so much more that we need to do.

Registered Charity Number: 219830.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
