Team Menoteers’s story
How do you plan to spend your Saturday morning on 8th December?
Maybe a stroll into town, a relaxing coffee with friends or a trip to the gallery?
For a hardy band of souls in Perth, there is nothing we would rather be doing than running around Perth City dressed in Santa suits complete with white beards, hats and the obligatory fairy lights. There may even be tiny bells a-jingling!
No, we are not mad. Okay, maybe just ever so slightly. But what we are is a dedicated group of 5 women, 1 man and his dog, aiming to raise funds to help the Menopause Café charity to host the world's only Menopause Festival and to support Menopause Cafes worldwide.
Until a few weeks ago, very few of us had actually run anywhere, for any distance, save perhaps to catch a bus. However, there's a lot to be said for the lure of a mince pie at the finish line, and yes, we admit it, the thrill of a shiny medal.
We may not be able to give Paula Radcliffe a run for her money but what we lack in speed we more than make up for in grit and determination. Hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings and brain fog will not stop us, neither will a brush with cellulitis, bruised toes or the odd arthritic hip.
Please do come along, encourage us, wave at us or give us a high-five. And, if you feel able, maybe make a wee donation to our cause. You'll make a band of bearded menopausal women, plus one man and his dog, very happy. How often can you say that?!
Merry Christmas!
