Play Benenden’s story

Play Benenden is the campaign to bring new and exciting play equipment to the village of Benenden and Iden Green.

In 2018 our Benenden play area reached the end of its life and was removed. A committee of local parents has been working hard to identify the needs of the village and design a play area that children, parents and carers will love to visit and enjoy.

What will it look like?

The design has a rural theme and a wooden/natural look and feel to best suit our rural village location. It will be situated along the top side of the recreation ground in Benenden.

The design includes areas for preschool and younger children, as well as equipment for older children.

  • For preschool children we have included baby swings, a wooden tractor for imaginative play, and a small climbing frame and slide.
  • For older children we have included standard swings and a nest swing, as well as a climbing frame, a trim trail, and a rope swing.
  • At the far corner of the recreation ground there will be a seating area with picnic tables and benches for parents and others to use.

Why is it needed?

Children living in the parish of Benenden and Iden Green need safe spaces to play. The play area will provide a creative and imaginative space for our children, providing high quality play equipment encouraging children to be active and spend more time playing outside.

Our new play area will help improve the well-being of residents in the parish, as well as enhancing our village as a fantastic place to live, work and visit.

We are so pleased to have received large donations from Benenden Parish Council, and the Benenden Village Trust to give us a solid fundraising foundation.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we are receiving from Kier Construction who are currently building our new village primary school. Kier are helping us with site preparation, security and fencing which has made a massive difference to the overall scheme.

We have also received contributions from the Waitrose Hawkhurst Community Matters scheme, and a donation from the Benenden Tennis Tournament - and we are very grateful to both for their support.

We need you!

We have made a good start but we now need your help to raise the remaining funds for your village.

Our fundraising target currently stands at £26K, and we appreciate every donation that helps us towards our goal.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
