On April 13th I will be taking part in the Rough Runner challenge. The challenge consists of a 15km run with 20 obstacles. I am participating in this challenge in an effort to raise money and awareness against the growing issue of poverty and homelessness.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s has shown a 165% increase in average count for those rough sleeping in the UK between 2010 and 2019 with London and the South East accounting for the highest percentage of rough sleepers. This is simply unacceptable and local councils have not received the funding they need to help and support they need.
It is through independent charities this issue is being addressed. A very special independent local charity called ‘Giving Back Crawley’ is one such organisation on the front line tackling the effects of poverty. Providing food, drinks, clothes and care, I have witnessed first-hand the amazing work that GBC is doing for the homeless. By participating in the Rough Runner challenge I hope to raise funds to contribute to the GBC’s services and raise awareness to the wider issue of homelessness in the UK. This organisation is truly inspiring and as a volunteer for the charity I have seen how committed they are to improving the lives of those less fortunate. I hope you can support me in this challenge so we can together work towards reducing the impact of poverty on our society.
