Mark’s story

I Ran the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 25th February to raise funds and develop awareness for CWA Brighton and Hove. Cycling Without Age is a World wide initiative with a local chapter in Brighton and Hove. The group at he moment run two Tri-shaws which enable local elderly residents to get out and about and to exercise their right "to feel the wind in their hair" More information can be found in the following link: Please if you can donate to this wonderful charity, if not please spread the word, it really is a wonderful thing to be a part of.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Pedal People

Pedal People We are a small, local Brighton charity.

Our volunteer cycle pilots ride out together with elder care homes residents - so they can feel the wind in their hair! We run several rides a day from elder care homes, year-round.

  • £25 provides a cycle ride to an elder.
  • £50 provides clean blankets and cuddly 'dementia-inclusive' bike pets for a year.
  • £75 provides bike maintenance and parts for a month. Our two bikes are out all the time each week and take a lot of wear.
  • £150 provides dementia awareness/basic skills for two volunteer cycle pilots.
  • £450 maintains one of our big red bikes for a year.
  • £1000 trains and supports a volunteer cycle pilot for a year.
  • £2000 provides cycle rides to 100 elders.

Many elders rarely have the chance to enjoy an outdoor adventure otherwise. Our special ‘Trishaws’ (three-wheel cycles with passenger cab up front) enable them to experience our city and nature close-up and chat with passers-by.

All riding out with us enjoy the physical and mental well-being benefits. We are renowned for equal ratio of female/male cycle pilots. Around 75% of our passengers are living with dementia. Rides are comfortable, fun, fully insured and free to elders.

Registered Charity Number: 1177426.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
