St Paul's Church’s story

Help us to repair our leaking roof and, in the process, become a part of history! St Paul's Church invites you to Sponsor a Slate to help fund the much-needed replacement of 12,000 slates to the church roof.

Despite receiving generous grants from both the Heritage Lottery Fund and the AllChurches Trust, we remain approximately £17,000 short of our target to complete this second phase of roof work.

For just £10 per slate, you can sponsor a slate in the name of anybody you choose. Perhaps you would like to remember a loved one, celebrate a marriage, baptism or confirmation, or even gift as a birthday or Christmas present. You can sponsor as many slates as you wish (one name per slate). All names will be recorded in a dedicated Book of Thanks which will become a permanent part of the heritage of St Paul's Church.

If you would like to sponsor slates in specific names, please write these in the message box when sponsoring us (or email [email protected] with the details). Alternatively, leave blank to remain anonymous.

If we manage to raise more than £17,000 through our Sponsor a Slate fundraising campaign, we will put any surplus donations towards our upcoming third and final phase of roof works.

Support our parish church today and help to preserve this beautiful listed building for the generations to come!

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

St. Paul's Church Shipley

Built in 1826, St. Paul's is the original Parish Church of Shipley, West Yorkshire. As a church community, we aim to be at the heart of Shipley, making a difference to people's lives and offering a warm welcome to all. The church was originally built as a place where people could gather to worship God and to serve the community and we continue to do that today.

We describe ourselves as a welcoming and inclusive Christian community who:

  • Worship the living God
  • Love our neighbours and our world
  • Share the good news

We live this out in various ways, not only in our Sunday services, but also in our weekday activities and our engagement with the wider community. We welcome everyone to be a part of this.

Our main values are:

  • Hospitality
  • Generosity
  • Inclusivity
  • Love

We believe that God's love in Jesus is for all people and we aim to share this in word and deed seven days a week both in church at our services and outside of church through living, working and volunteering. We aim to work closely together with other churches and partner organisations in Shipley and are excited to see where God is leading us and what difference we can make to the people of Shipley and beyond.

We have recently launched our Sponsor a Slate fundraising campaign to raise funds for the much-needed repairs to our church roof. For more information and to sponsor a slate, please visit our Fundraising Page.

If you would like to make a donation to St. Paul's Church, but not specifically sponsor a slate, you are most welcome to do so using the Donate Now button above. If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to Gift Aid your donation, which will add 25% to the overall donation received by St. Paul's Church, at no extra cost to yourself. We thank you for your generosity.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
