Team St Albans Adventure Group’s story
In Kenya secondary school is not free. For children of the many poor parents, education beyond primary school therefore does not happen. If a child is able to attend secondary school this gives options such as university and apprenticeships - which opens opportunities to go on to earn a good salary and for them (and their families) to escape the poverty trap.
A number of members of the St Alban's Adventure Group have together sponsored Brian successfully through four years of secondary school. We now have the opportunity to sponsor Stacy.
Stacy is from the Luo tribe, with her family originally from around Lake Victoria. They now live in the slums in Nairobi where her father is able to pick up odd painting jobs. Her mother is not working and they rely on the goodwill of others to survive.
Stacy has three brothers. She performed very well at primary school, scoring an A- overall, and thus has the potential to get to university in the future. A donation of £50 (or £40 with gift aid) will cover all the costs for her for about half a term at boarding school.
