St Matthews Big Local’s story

The school holidays are approaching in just 4 weeks!

Our community is one of the most deprived communities in the country.

503 Children aged 0-15 are living in poverty, thats 28% of our community and this year we need to make sure that no child goes hungry in 2019.

We wish we didn't have to, but we aim to provide 350 meals each week; but we need your help.

Based on a budget of just £2 per person this will cost £3,800.

The government awarded over £9.1 Million to just 11 areas across the country, but unfortunately Leicester City did not receive any funding.

We are pleased that we have support from Leicester City Council and Central England Coop. With their help we have managed to raise £2350 towards this target.

Can you help us raise the rest? We know it's a big ask but every penny counts. All of the funds raised will go towards the costs of running the holiday hunger programme.

We will also be working with a range of partners to deliver positive fun activities for the children who attend.

We are also looking for volunteer support every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10.30 until 1pm. If you can help please email -

[email protected]

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
