Only a small handful of you know the real me. What many of you don't know is how hard it has been hiding the anxiety I have been feeling for years. I may seem to be outgoing and I make a HUGE effort to appear 'normal' and I hope you would agree that I always try to have a smile on my face. Life is hard for all of us and we all have our internal struggles. I turn down many social events because I am just too shattered from over thinking, analysing conversations and hoping I haven't offended someone.
There are other members of my family who suffer with anxiety and depression and I want to prove to one impressionable person in particular that it is nothing to be ashamed of and we should all be willing to reach out for help when we need it and provide it when that person asks.
So, with social media and phone usage playing a major role in the increasing numbers of children, teens and adults experiencing mental health issues, I am challenging myself to go one month without my phone, whatsapp and Facebook. I am addicted to it and need to recognise that I don't need it to survive! As of 20th August I will not be using my phone except if my daughters need me in an emergency when they return to school.
I would like to help our young people by asking you to donate £1 to youngminds.org who fight to ensure our children get the best possible mental health support. I do not want anyone to reach the age of 46 before recognising they need the support of others.
Food for thought: 3 children in every classroom have a mental health problem - that's 10% in some cases.
Please don't forget GIFT AID if it applies. I have purposely chosen wonderful.org to collect donations because 100% of the money raised goes to the charity, they do not take their share.
Lastly, thank you for reading to the end - I really do appreciate it.
Enjoy the month of Facebook silence - just think, no more darn photos to have to plough through!
