Beth’s story

On Saturday 13th October 2018, I will transform into a silvery sea trout before cycling 100 miles in support of West Sutherland Fisheries Trust’s 2018 sea trout project. The project aims to unlock the mysteries of where sea trout go and what they do whilst at sea.

As keen Fish Biologist of Loch Duart Ltd, I will be training up for the event over the next couple of months, with a small team of crafty enthusiasts helping to design the most aerodynamic and biologically accurate sea trout costume ever made. Of course, this may be largely because it’s likely to be the only sea trout cycle costume ever made. In keeping with the tracking project, my cycle route will be monitored as I make my way along the route from Scourie, south to Lairg, and back north via Achfary, before returning home.

Every penny raised will go directly to West Sutherland Fisheries Trust, and will be used to help cover data analysis costs for The Laxford Sea Trout Tracking Project. Please give generously!

West Sutherland Fisheries Trust

Established in 1996, WSFT works with all stakeholders including proprietors, anglers and regulatory authorities to protect and restore all fish stocks within the area. The stated aim of the Trust is to return salmonid populations to the levels seen in the 1970's through the conservation and protection of fish species in each catchment. This will best be achieved by habitat and fisheries management through the Fishery Management Plan and individual catchment management plans. The Trust continues to support the use of catch and release as a useful management tool, and by promoting good practice we hope to retain sustainable fisheries for the benefit of all.

Registered Charity Number: SC024426.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
