Steven’s story

Belgrove Primary School in rural Lemongo was purpose built in 2005, through a joint NGO initiative, to provide primary

education for children living in extremely remote areas of Kajiado South. The school provides an excellent standard of

primary education and provides three meals a day for all children which they would not normally receive at home. The

problem here is that many of these children must still travel extremely long journeys of over 16km a day to attend,

across terrain that is both prone to flooding and also wildlife hazards. This is a major issue for the school, evidenced

by the fact that 67 children dropped out completely last year as a result of these unsustainable travel distances. In

order for this school to be able to fully support all the children living in remote areas, there is a need for

accommodation.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

BuildAid

BuildAid is a small UK charity that delivers overseas construction projects for people in need. Our founding Trustees are Chartered Building Surveyors by profession, with over 40 years’ construction experience gained across four continents. We specialise in community buildings such as schools, shelters and hospitals and we only ever use local labour and local materials to keep costs down and build the capacity of the local community. Since our inception in 2005, we have worked in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Haiti, with ongoing projects in Kenya and the Philippines.

In the next 2 years, we're aiming to build:

  • 10 classrooms for schools in isolated areas, where there is nowhere else to go for an education
  • 10 dormitories for schools in isolated areas, where children must walk for hours everyday to get to school and home again
  • A large mother and baby clinic providing pre and post natal care, infant immunisation and community education around nutrition, sanitation and disease prevention
  • A child oncology unit for inpatient and outpatient cancer care in Malawi
  • 4+ shelters for young girls rescued from online sexual exploitation and in crisis
  • 4+ Sand Dams, turning arid river beds into irrigated farm land

The UK government will not help any charities with overseas construction projects. We do all of our own fundraising and desperately need your help and support.

Registered Charity Number: 1108811.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
