Growing Spaces Project’s story

Our cover photo is of the dilapidated 1870s coach house which is being converted into two full-sized 21st Century classrooms and two arts & craft studios - building inspirational learning spaces inside this C-Listed building for excellence to flourish. Please help the work continue.

We are appealing to our wider family of 1,090 Steiner Waldorf Schools and 1,870 Kindergartens in this Centennial year since Rudolf founded our shared educational approach: Please join us to help raise the funds needed for our campus development project by donating £100.

Our bonnie school celebrates its 80th year in Edinburgh, Scotland at the same time our heritage buildings within a conservation area turn 150 years old.

The Steiner Waldorf curriculum has fared significantly better over the decades than our 1870s bricks & mortar, which are sadly dilapidating rapidly into disrepair.

We are the only Steiner Waldorf school remaining in Scotland with 266 pupils, including a dozen foreign exchange students and 42 children in Kindergarten. We hope to continue to provide an important alternative to mainstream education in Edinburgh, but to do so we need to grow to be sustainable.

Our vision is to create a Kindergarten that can hold 60 children, providing a healthy number of pupils transitioning to Class 1; and 12 classrooms with a capacity of up to 25 pupils. We need to enhance the energy efficiency of our historic buildings – both for our bills and our planet. And we need to address the ageing of our buildings.

Thank you.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
