BowelCancer West’s story

South West Charity Bowel Cancer West have launched a campaign to raise 10,000 to fund a research collaboration to improve detection and treatment outcomes of colorectal (bowel) cancer for young people across the region. Young patients more often present an advanced stage of the disease, requiring major surgery which can lead to worse treatment outcomes along with a higher chance of the cancer reoccurring. Long term impacts can often include a patient requiring a colostomy bag for the rest of their life which can be devastating for a young person wanting to live an action-packed life. The research group aims to bring together some of the top medical and engineering brains in the region to assess the latest technology that can be used to make a direct impact on survival rates of the disease, decrease post-operative complication rates and improve post-operative quality of life. Please give generously to help them achieve there goal.

Bowel Cancer West

The charity was founded to improve survival rates of people with bowel cancer in the south west. Currently, one in three people in the west country know someone with bowel cancer and the disease has a dangerously low profile. We are here to change that by funding three key areas:

WE FUND RESEARCH conducted at west country universities to plug a national gap. Our projects are internationally recognised and carefully selected by a BCW grants committee of esteemed academics to ensure we remain focused on the right areas.

We raise AWARENESS of bowel cancer. Incidences of the disease are high and awareness levels are alarmingly low. Everyone between the age of 60-74 is sent a test every two years but many choose to ignore this. Discussing bowel habits (and potential symptoms) is also a tricky topic, but together we can combat the cringe' to ensure everyone has the knowledge they need about this disease to catch it early.

WE PROVIDE TRAINING for NHS staff to ensure they provide patients with the best possible care. We train them to diagnose patients effectively and to offer the best support surrounding any treatment required.

With your support, we can considerably reduce the number of early deaths in the south west by putting the brakes on this disease.

Registered Charity Number: 1140271.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
