Whiskers'’s story
Whiskers has been through a lot - here are a few words from her fosterer:
-----------
'Whiskers came to our house three months ago after her previous family became increasingly worried about her wellbeing. Since the first lockdown, she had stopped using her litter tray and started losing fur on her tummy and legs from overgrooming.
'She was, naturally, quite nervous when she first arrived at our house: she slowly came out of the carrier, had a good look-around of her new room, and once settled, she was happy to be stroked. After a few weeks of trials and errors, with a different amount of four different types of litter, she re-learnt how to use litter trays.
'The overgrooming issue was not as easy to resolve. Changing her food to a specialist food for cats with sensitive skin seemed to have had some effects, and she showed off her new shiny coat to our neighbours, demanding them to feel it! However, she was still overgrooming her tummy and legs, her skin raw and red. When the initial course of antibiotics and steroid tablets failed to stop her overgrooming, the vets suggested a proper investigation. Whiskers had to be given general anaesthetics so that the vets can take some blood and skin samples, which revealed that she was having some kind of allergic reaction but nothing more. Since then, she has been on a higher dose of steroids. Combined with the cone to stop her licking the wounds where the vets took skin samples, the higher dose of steroid has vastly improved her skin. She no longer has red, inflamed skin that she needs to keep licking, and instead has lots of fur re-growing!
'Whiskers is very affectionate and loves being stroked and cuddled. It is great to see her finally looking so well with no red, bald patches!'

We hope Whiskers will be ready for her new home shortly but her road to recovery has not been easy with lots of visits to the vets, medications and blood tests. So far we've spent over £450 preparing her for her new home so if you could help, even a couple of pounds, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for looking.
