Adrian’s story
As a recipient of a wonderful education, I can see how it has benefitted me on all sorts of levels. For many years I have been concerned that these advantages should be available to all children growing up.
I am one of the Trustees of Kirima Ltd, a charity which works in Kanungu, a rural region of Uganda, where people earn far below the national average of £2 per day. Most families rely on subsistence farming to survive. Kirima gives children the education they need to escape from a cycle of poverty, providing nursery, primary, secondary and college education and supporting children into their adult lives. It supports children to grow in self-confidence and gain the knowledge they will need for paid employment, so they can support their families and benefit the wider community. I always find it uplifting to see the enthusiasm the children show for learning, and the smiles on their faces.
This year, to raise the funds we need to build on our work, a small group of UK supporters will walk 800 miles between us. We will start with a ten mile walk on 31st August 2024 starting in Highgate, North London, and ending symbolically at the Ugandan Embassy in Trafalgar Square. So please give something if you can. A specific donor has promised to double whatever you contribute, and gift aid will add more, so giving £40 will let us send £100 to Uganda where it will achieve such a lot.
