Oakley with Wootton Churches

Oakley with Wootton is an Anglican parish 5 miles west of Basingstoke comprising 2 thriving village churches - St Leonard’s Oakley and Wootton St Lawrence. Located at the gateway to the stunning Hampshire countryside, our churches have been loving and serving their villages for over 1,000 years. That commitment is as strong today as it ever has been. Visit today and you will find a buzzing church community. Our congregations are growing and there’s always a lot going on. Sunday services are filled with people of all ages and stages of life. Throughout the week our church Centre hosts a range of toddler groups, church events, community clubs and activities as well as our popular pre-school. We have an outward-looking vision and are always keen to actively support our local community. In recent years this has included a particular focus on championing the mental health and wellbeing of the residents of Oakley and Wootton St Lawrence. In 2022 we employed our first ever youth worker and this was followed by the appointment of an advocate for older people in 2023. Both work across our neighbourhood with briefs that prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of those they meet.  Our churches are financed entirely through the giving of members of the congregation and through income from letting our church Centres. Our current financial position is very encouraging and for this we are very thankful. We have been inspired by the positive impact our youth activities have had on young people across our villages. As we look to make our youth worker post sustainable for the years ahead, we hope to broaden the support for this work through a community fundraising campaign. By seeking wider funding for this post, we will be able to utilise our current resources to impact more lives for the better. The parish of Oakley with Wootton St Lawrence is part of the Diocese of Winchester within Church of England and is a registered charity.
