Reducing Waste - Feeding People. Recycling excess food from supermarkets and wholesalers since 2014.The idea behind Banbury Food for Charities is very simple : Our volunteers use their own cars to pick up excess fresh food from supermarkets and other suppliers and then deliver it straight away to local registered Charities supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Banbury. The Charities represent a full range of the most vulnerable people, including mothers and babies, children and young people at risk, the homeless, the elderly, those with mental health and educational issues, women needing refuge and the homeless. They typically use the food for meals, for cooking demonstrations, for food parcels, or in community larders. It is truly humbling to see these Charities in action. We once quantified the food we saved from bio-digester or land fill as equivalent to a builders skip every month. What a great way to avoid food waste!
