The Paul Ridd Foundation is a charity based in South Wales, set up after the avoidable death of Paul Ridd, a 53 year old gentleman with profound learning disabilities who died of neglect in Morriston Hospital, Swansea in 2009. Since his death we have campaigned tirelessly for change and our work has had a significant impact on secondary healthcare for people with a learning disability in Wales. This includes the introduction of the care bundle; an increase in the number of learning disability liaison nurses from 2 when Paul died to 24 currently; our logo is recognised as the official logo for adults with a learning disability within the NHS in Wales; the introduction of the mandatory Paul Ridd learning disability awareness training for all NHS staff in Wales. We also share Paul's Story with first year nursing and affiliated health care students in every University in Wales.
