Sterts must be one of the UK's most unusual theatrical settings: a 400-seat amphitheatre nestling on the grassy side of Bodmin Moor, in the open Cornish air yet protected from summer rain by a massive canopy. With a stage graced by some of the biggest names in show business, such as Jo Brand, Ed Byrne and Josh Widdicombe, it is fundamentally the talent and enthusiasm of local performers that make Sterts very much a ‘community theatre’ and arts centre. The day-to-day running of Sterts is carried out by volunteers and although survival for all small theatres in these difficult times is a real challenge, so long as audiences keep enjoying our shows and our volunteers are there to provide their invaluable help, Sterts will hold fast to its founding dream of theatrical opportunity for everybody.
