NOTTS LGBT+ NETWORK(formerly Notts Lesbian and Gay Switchboard)Providing information & support to LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual & trans) people of Nottinghamshire. Our service includes a 5-nights-a-week helpline operating by phone, e-mail, text and letter; a bimonthly widely distributed newsletter - QB - which can be downloaded from our website; training on LGBT+ awareness; a presence on many local consultation groups and forums; in various ways we support about 40 local LGBT+ groups. Our website (www.nottslgbt.com) gives the full details. Because we have no paid workers, but many well-trained volunteers, we can provide all our services for about £15,000/year. The former Nottingham Health Authority said we give "amazing value for money". Nevertheless we struggle to raise that money and your help will be most welcome.Phone us on 0115 934 8485 Monday to Friday 7pm-9.15pm Text ONLY on 07481 344040 E-mail us on [email protected] us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NottsLGBTOn Twitter at https://twitter.com/nottsLGBT Why the community needs us1. Information. These days Google is the first port of call for most people seeking information. For LGBT+ information there are many omissions, inaccuracies and out of date details on the internet. Our Network's database is comprehensive and regularly checked.2. Support. Experience of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia often presents barriers to people who need to use support services. People who contact us know that every one of our volunteers is LGBT. We can provide a "listening ear" for anyone who wishes to discuss their issues.3. Publicity. Groups and organisations which are working with the LGBT+ community can make their work known by contacting us and having inputs into our bimonthly newsletter QB and our presence on social media. Our impact on the communityThe Network began in 1975 and has since received over 70,000 contacts via its helpline. Since 1998 it has been involved with QB, the local widely distributed LGBT newsletter and since 2005 has had sole responsibility for its production. In more recent times we have been able to have a two-way dialogue with community members through social media. We always aim to have an involvement in LGBT+ occasions such as Pride, LGBT History Month and one-off events organised by the Councils, the Police, the NHS and others. We have provided training, lectures and presentations for over 100 groups and organisations. Over many years we have supported, and in some cases initiated the development of local LGBT groups.

It’s wonderful to have access to all kinds of data, but it’s a full-time job to separate valuable news from useless noise. Maria Bartiromo
