For over 40 years it's been the charity's mission to collect and preserve Yorkshire farming material from the earliest development of agriculture up to the mid-twentieth century. From historic vehicles and carts to the hand tools and implements used on the farm throughout the county, the collection tells the story of Yorkshire’s farming past. Much of this collection is on permanent display in the Four Seasons Gallery. Larger objects are displayed in the open spaces around the museum. The museum is also home to a research library archive and boasts an impressive photographic collection.
The Yorkshire Museum of Farming also houses four reconstructed historical sites - a Roman fort, a Viking Village, Stone Age round houses and a WW2 evacuee centre - which supports the education of Yorkshire's past. This is delivered through a KS2 education programme.
