Argyll & Bute Citizens Advice Bureau (ABCAB) is a lifeline for our community, helping people heat their homes and feed their families. We assist people to improve their incomes and navigate complex systems, such as for benefits or housing, and provide urgent support in times of crisis.
ABCAB's primary mission is to provide free, confidential, and comprehensive advice and assistance to Argyll and Bute residents. Our objective is to empower individuals by ensuring they understand their rights and how to access them, and do not suffer through an inability to effectively express their needs.
We place equal importance on using our valuable insight into local issues, gathered through our community work, to responsibly influence the development of social policies at regional and national levels. Our Social Impact work carries out local research, drawing upon real-life experiences, which is shared with local elected members and national politicians to inform policy and drive positive change.
The Bureau offers support on a wide range of issues, including debt, employment, disability, family and relationships, immigration, energy, and health care. We also deliver specialist advice projects focused on specific groups, such as the Armed Forces Community and people with challenges using the NHS.
Our services are free, confidential, impartial and accessible. People can reach us through various channels to suit their preferences and needs. This can be in-person, from one of our main or outreach locations throughout the area, or by telephone, email, post, or video conferencing. We advocate for the client’s right to decide their next steps, ensuring they maintain agency in their choices. We take a holistic approach to advice-giving – by building a relationship of trust with our clients, we encourage them to share their whole story so that we may address interconnected issues.
